Notes:
Weaver and house owner in Mülsen St. Niclas, Sachsen. He must have moved away from Mülsen St. Niclas after 1851, for there are no church records there from his family after then.

It is possible that the Schmidt family moved to Plauen; certainly Eduard Emil Schmidt and Ella Schmidt Stolzenberg (both born in Mülsen) lived in Plauen. A weaver named Christian (or Christoph) Friedrich Schmidt is documented in the Plauen address books of 1854 (Neundfr. Str. B 55), 1863 (Dobenaustr. B 94), 1870 (Hofer Str. E 108), 1874 (Hofer Str. E 108), 1877 (Hoferstr. 46), and 1881 (Rinnelb. 7). (It may be that Christian and Christoph are two different people, but they do not both appear in any one such address book.) A weaver Christoph Friedrich Schmidt became a citizen of Plauen on 18 May 1859, with his former residence listed as Leubnitz, but a date that may be his birthdate appears to read 29 Nov 1823 in Leubnitz, which would mean he is not the right Schmidt. A master tailor Christian Friedrich Schmidt died, probably in Plauen, on 28 Sep 1866, and had served as guardian for the mentally handicapped Franz Ludwig Schmidt, the guardianship thereupon transferring to the bookdealer Franz Eduard Neupert. There was also a Christian Friedrich Schmidt who was an assistant teacher, then starting in 1871 a teacher at the dritte Bürgerschule in Plauen.

He doesn’t seem to be the Christian Friedrich Schmidt, master weaver in Chemnitz, who died sometime shortly before 6 Feb 1894, according to the Leipziger Tageblatt und Anzeiger of that date. In 1869 he apparently resided in Chemnitz 4. Bezirk at property number 41 D V on the alte Rochlitzer Str., citizenship certificate dated 11 Mar 1846[!] granted 10 Feb 1866. He was born 13 April 1822 in Lengefeld. Nor is he likely the master baker and retired farmer Christian Friedrich Schmidt, who died between 16 and 30 November 1892 in Lößnitz, age 84 years 7 months.
