Notes:
Hireling and cobbler in Salzuflen, Barksen, and Kleinenbremen. In 1787 he lived in Schreiber’s house, in 1791 in Hesen’s[?] house, and in 1796 in Ahldag’s house in Barksen. He was also an Einlieger (renter) in Kleinenbremen Nr. 16. He died of asthma (Dampf) in Luhden Nr. 4 and was buried without a bell toll. He is listed without a given name in one of his two death records and in his children’s baptismal records in Kleinenbremen, as Friedrich Strübing in his other death record, as Jacob Strübing in his son Johann Heinrich’s marriage record in 1818, and as Friederich Christian Strüving in his daughter Christine Wilhelmine’s marriage record in 1824. It could be possible that the 1816 death record refers to his brother Friedrich Christian, but the occupation listed is a shoemaker, and a death record for his brother was found in Herford, so a name confusion is more likely. Exactly why the pastor in Kleinenbremen often listed Jacob’s given name incorrectly or not at all is unknown, but it could have been a doctrinal issue, for although he was raised in a Lutheran church, he attended a Reformed church in Salzuflen.

The connection of the Jacob/Friedrich Strübing in Kleinenbremen to the Johann Jacob Stribing in Salzuflen is proven by the similarity of his and his wife’s names, the compatibility of birth dates of their children, and, most definitively, by the presence of Christine Wilhelmine (born in Kleinenbremen) as the sister of Anne Soph. Margarethe Strüvings in the 1811 baptism of the latter’s daughter Sophie Philippine in Kleinenbremen. Johanna Sophia Margreta was born in Salzuflen. His marriage record in Salzuflen says he was from “Erzen im Hannov.”, which connects him to his birth family in Aerzen.

He is not the Christ. Frieder. Strübing who married Sophia Margreta Matthias in Eisbergen on 7 Oct 1780. That couple had children baptized in Eisbergen in 1780, 1788, 1791, and 1792, which are incompatible with the birthdates of Johann Jacob’s children. Christian Friedrich was a “Tobacksspinner” in 1780 and was Johann Jacob’s brother, mentioned without name in the baptism record of Jacob’s son Johann Friedrich.
