Here are some of my special projects, newest on top:
A survey of the first hundred years of the famous French Christmas carol Les anges dans nos campagnes shows that its textual history is longer and more varied than previously known, which has implications on the origin of its English cousins Angels from the realms of glory and Angels we have heard on high: "A Century of Angels: The First Hundred Years of a French Carol and Its English Counterparts", The Hymn, A Journal of Congregational Song, Volume 76 No. 2, Spring 2025, 26–33.
My biography of the German hymnwriter Catharina von Schlegel, author of the moving hymn Be Still My Soul, finally tells her story, it having been a mystery for hundreds of years: "Catharina von Schlegel and Be Still, My Soul", Logia, A journal of Lutheran theology, Volume XXXIV #2, Eastertide 2025, 37–44.
My biography of Gabriel Gottlieb Boltze, composer of the melody used for one of the most frequently sung Lutheran hymns, Let us ever walk with Jesus (LSB 685): "Melody's Triumph over Darkness: The Life of G. G. Boltze", CrossAccent, Vol. 31, No 3, Fall/Winter 2023, 14–19, www.alcm.org
