Notes: He could be the Jan Faij who, along with his wife Susanna Jans, baptized a daughter Rinsje in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam on 23 Apr 1630.
He is possibly the same person as João de la Faya (Jan, Joan, da Faya, or da Faija), also known as Moisés, Mose, or Mosche de la Faya (or, according to one account, Abraão de Alafaia, apparently confused with his brother), a Portuguese Jewish merchant who probably became a citizen in Amsterdam about 1633. de la Faya was born about 1599 and came to Amsterdam in 1619 from Porto, Portugal and can be found in the financial records of the Gemeente Neve Salom in 1620 as a lesser donor. He and his older brother Pedro, alias Abraham, born about 1570 and also a merchant in Amsterdam, sometimes did business using the surname Pinto because of the threat of the Spanish Inquisition. Pedro had a daughter Rachel de la Faya who married Josua Coen Peixoto, alias Antonio Mendes Peixoto about 1625. João was described in Amsterdam in 1643 as a merchant in Frankfurt. In 1614, João was called a “Cristão-novo”, a New Christian, as was his wife and they had 6 or 7 children, the youngest probably 7 or 8 years old, one named Arão and another Jacob. At the time he was a merchant living in Arrecife and on Saturdays he didn’t open his tent.
A Jenne do Fay van Calleë[?], 36 years old, is mentioned in the Amsterdam Confessiebok on 17 Jul 1649, hence born about 1613.
