Notes:
Railroad worker, Römerstraße 2, Lingenfeld/Pfalz, Germany. Before the war he worked as a laborer, and was a member of the 2./Res. Flakscheinwerfer Abt. 299, Feldpost N. 15548 A, in Mannheim starting 1 Sept. 1939. He refused to join the Nazi Party, was denied work, and was then drafted, probably on 6 June 1941. (Soviet prisoner-of-war records indicate he was drafted 4 Sep 1944.) He served as a Gefreiter (private first class), radio operator, in the 280 Brigade, Battery 1, Heeresflak (army anti-aircraft) in Prague, where he was captured by the Russians on 10 May 1945, a day after the fall of Prague. He was taken to Stalino (now Donetsk, Ukraine) to camp 242 at the north edge of Gorlovka (now Horlivka) and then to a camp at Moscow (according to German records, but not Soviet records), where he remained from 10 July 1945 until 10 June 1947, having been held for 25 months. After his return home, he was hospitalized from 29 June to 12 October 1947. He was given work again for the railroad during denazification.
